The 1996 Iranian parliamentary elections took place on March 8, 1996.

The high voter turnout, as well as the high number of applicants, can be explained by the disproportionate increase in the young electorate. Two political groups emerged victorious. As expected, the Union of Warring Clergy (110 seats) and the Islamic Society of Engineers (80 seats), of which Mahmoud Ahmadinejad became president in 2005. Ali Akbar Nateq Nuri was elected Speaker of Parliament .
