(52665) Brianmay is an asteroid of the main outer belt , which was discovered on January 30, 1998 by the Czech astronomer couple Jana Tichá and Miloš Tichý at the Kleť observatory ( IAU code 046) near Český Krumlov .

The mean diameter of the asteroid was calculated to be 4.474 (± 0.294) km .

The asteroid belongs to the Eos family , a group of asteroids which typically have large semiaxes from 2.95 to 3.1 AU , bounded inward by the Kirkwood gap of the 7: 3 resonance with Jupiter , and orbital inclinations between 8 ° and 12 °. The group is named after the asteroid (221) Eos . The family is believed to have emerged from a collision more than a billion years ago. According to the SMASS classification ( Small Main-Belt Asteroid Spectroscopic Survey ), a spectroscopic study by Gianluca Masi , Sergio Foglia and Richard P. Binzel at (52665) Brianmay assumed a dark surface, so it could, roughly speaking, be around trade a C asteroid .

(52665) Brianmay is named after Brian May , who became known as the guitarist for the rock band Queen and received his PhD in astrophysics in 2007 . The name was given by the International Astronomical Union (IAU) on June 18, 2008 at the suggestion of the English astronomer Patrick Moore .
