The 1912 presidential election in the United States was decided from among three important candidates. Two had previously won White House elections. President William Howard Taft was reappointed by the Republican Party with the support of the party's Conservative wing. After former President Theodore Roosevelt was not nominated by the Republicans, he founded a new party, the Progressive Party (nickname: Bull Moose Party ). The Democrats nominated Woodrow Wilson . He got 42 percent of the vote, defeating Taft and Roosevelt. This was the only time between 1892 and 1932 and, after the election of Grover Cleveland, the second time between 1856 and 1932 that a Democrat was elected President.
