The Enkianthus ( Enkianthus ) are a plant kind from the family of the heather family (Ericaceae), with twelve to 14 species in East Asia (eastern Himalaya , China including Taiwan , Japan , Indochinese Peninsula ). Enkianthus is regarded as the most original genus of the heather family and is placed in its own ( monogeneric ) subfamily Enkianthoideae .
description
The genus consists of deciduous, rarely evergreen , shrubs and small trees . The alternate arranged in clusters at the ends of the branches leaves are stalked, simple, with serrated or almost smooth sheet edge.
There are usually too many in terminal umbellate or umbrella- shaped inflorescences ; only a few species have the flowers singly or in pairs. The shape of the corolla ranges from broadly bell-shaped to jug-shaped, the corolla lobes are always short. In the stamens , which are in two circles and are much shorter than the crown, the stamens are flat and broadened at the base. The oblong anthers , each of begrannten at the top counters will open a slot. In contrast to many other heather plants, the pollen grains do not remain united in tetrads. The Upper constant ovary with abgestutzter scar has few ovules per carpel .
An egg-shaped, loculicidal capsule fruit is formed in which the number of ripe seeds can be reduced to one. The seeds are mostly winged.
