Propargyl chloride is a chemical compound from the group of aliphatic unsaturated halogenated hydrocarbons and organic chlorine compounds .

Extraction and presentation

Propargyl chloride can be made from propargyl alcohol and phosphorus trichloride .

properties

Propargyl chloride is a highly flammable, very volatile, slightly yellow-green liquid. It shows the expected properties of an alkyne and can therefore enter into addition and polymerization reactions . It is somewhat easier to hydrolyze in water than primary chloroalkanes .

use

Propargyl chloride is used in the manufacture of dyes , fungicides , insecticides , soil disinfectants, steroids , growth hormones and pharmaceuticals . It is also used to manufacture corrosion inhibitors and brighteners for electroplating .

safety instructions

The vapors of propargyl chloride can form an explosive mixture with air ( flash point −16 ° C, ignition temperature 295 ° C). Furthermore, the toxicity of the connection requires compliance with safety rules in handling.
