Culture and history

The capital of Khiva Khanate in Khorezmia , the province's name Xorazm goes back to Khorezmia , was Xiva. The walled Old City Ichan Qal'а the city of Khiva is now a World Heritage Site of UNESCO .

Many famous scholars of the Orient were born in Khorezm , benefiting from the old oasis city of Xiva (Chiva), such as the Persian polymath al-Khwarizmi (born around 780; died between 835 and 850) and al-Biruni (973-1048) .

Economy and Transport

In addition to tourism, the province lives mainly from cotton and rice cultivation . There is also the cultivation of fruits and vegetables such as cucumbers, melons, grapes and potatoes. The dependence on cotton can be seen in the large number of cotton-processing companies: processing raw cotton, production of cottonseed oil , production of textiles and carpets.

Xorazm has been an important transit area between the Orient , Russia and the Caucasus for thousands of years . Accordingly, the infrastructure is well developed, also due to tourism, with 130 km of railway lines and 2000 km of paved roads.
