The province of Fargʻona ( Uzbek Fargʻona viloyati ; Russian Ферганская область / Ferganskaja oblast ) is one of the twelve provinces of Uzbekistan . It is located in the southern part of the Ferghana Valley in the far east of the country. The Fargʻona province borders on the Uzbek provinces of Namangan and Andijon , as well as the countries of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan . The area of the province is 6,800 km² (rank 9 of the Uzbek provinces), the population (2017) 3,564,800 people, making Fargʻona the province with the most inhabitants after Samarqand . About 71 percent of the population live in rural areas, the population density is 524 inhabitants per square kilometer. The ISO 3166-2 code of the province is UZ-FA

The capital of the province is Fargʻona with 183,037 inhabitants. The largest city in the province of Fargʻona is Qoʻqon ( German Kokand ) with 206,131 inhabitants , other important cities are Margʻilon , Quva , Quvasoy and Rishton . Furthermore, there are ten town-like settlements and 164 villages in Fargʻona.
Administratively, the province is divided into 15 districts ( tuman ). The five cities of Fargʻona, Margʻilon, Quva, Quvasoy and Qoʻqon are provincial; i.e., they do not belong to any district. Quva is also the capital of the district of the same name. The Uzbek exclaves Soʻx (separate district), Chong-Kara (to the Soʻx district), Shohimardon and Jangail (to the Fargʻona district), located within the Kyrgyz region of Batken , are part of the Fargʻona province.
economy
The most important industry in the region is plant production. Within this branch, the irrigated cotton cultivation , sericulture , horticulture and viticulture are the most important branches. Other agricultural activities include livestock (meat and milk production) and beekeeping. Natural resources include oil and clay minerals . The dominant industries are petroleum refineries , the production of fertilizers and chemical products, textile and silk weaving mills, light industry and the clothing and ceramics industries.
