Punta del Hidalgo is a tourist district in the Spanish municipality of San Cristóbal de La Laguna in the north of the Canary Island of Tenerife .

According to the Instituto Nacional de Estadística , Punta del Hidalgo had 2,544 inhabitants on January 1, 2015.

Punta del Hidalgo is located on a foothill of the Atlantic coast northwest of the Anaga Mountains . The TF-13 provincial road ends in Punta del Hidalgo.

The name Punta del Hidalgo ("(land) tip of the Hidalgo ") refers, according to legend, to an achimencey named Aguahuco, to whom the area was assigned in the time of the Canarian indigenous people, the Guanches . Achimencey was a nobility title of the Guanches, which roughly corresponds to the Spanish hidalgo pobre ("poor knight").

Punta del Hidalgo is divided into different settlement centers: El Carmen / La Hoya, Tesesinte, La Punta Casco and El Homicián. The tourist center Tesesinte with two hotel complexes and an apartment house is located on the coast. The old town center (La Punta Casco) with the church of San Mateo Apóstol is located further inland. The place is also the starting point for tours in the Anaga Mountains and the cave village of Chinamada.

The modern lighthouse Faro de Punta del Hidalgo was built in 1992 and is 50 meters high. In addition, the place is rich in banana plantations.
