Pyrgos ( Greek Πύργος ( m. Sg. ), Pronunciation : [ ˈpirɣɔs ]) is a municipality in the Peloponnese in the Greek region of western Greece . It was founded by the merger of four municipalities on January 1st, 2011. The administrative seat of the municipality, which has 47,995 inhabitants (2011), is the city of Pyrgos , which was the capital of the Prefecture of Elis until 2010 .

The municipality of Pyrgos extends over an area of 456 km² in the west of the Peloponnese to the Ionian Sea. Neighboring communities are Ilida in the north, Archea Olymbia in the east and Andritsena-Krestena in the south.

Administrative division
The municipality of Pyrgos was formed by the administrative reform of 2010 from the four municipalities of Pyrgos , Volakas , Iordanas and Oleni on January 1, 2011. The administrative seat is the city of Pyrgos. The previous municipalities form municipal districts, the former municipal districts elect their own local representatives as urban districts or local communities.
