Location in the region of Western Greece

Thermo ( Greek Θέρμο ( n. Sg. ), Pronunciation : [ ˈθɛrmɔ ]) is a municipality in western Greek Aetolia around the small town of the same name with (2011) 1716 inhabitants.

The municipality of Thermo extends on the eastern shore of Lake Trichonida ( 15 m above sea level) and extends to the north far into the eastern foothills of the Panetoliko , where its highest point is the summit of Triandafyllia on the border with the municipality of Karpenisi in Evrytania ( 1817 m ) achieved. The Evinos borders it to the east to the municipality of Nafpaktia , to the west Thermo borders to the municipality of Agrinio .

Thermo is named after the ancient town of Thermon , which was the center of the Aitolian League and the remains of which are around one kilometer south of today's. Until 1915 the village was called Kefalovryso and was an independent rural community (kinotita) when it was renamed Thermo in 1915. In 1994 this parish was upgraded to a municipal parish (dimos) and expanded to include the eastern neighboring parish of Chrysovitsa. In 1997, by amalgamating this municipality with 21 other small rural communities, today's municipality was formed.

The 23 municipalities that existed until 1994 have had the status of an urban district (Ez. Gr. Dimotiki kinotita ) - namely Thermo - or of local communities (topiki kinotita) since 2011 and elect a council or an individual representative as local representative, depending on the number of inhabitants. The population figures come from the results of the 2011 census.
