Quitandinha , officially Portuguese Município de Quitandinha , is a small town in the Brazilian state of Paraná in the Sul region . As of July 1, 2019, the population was estimated at 19,049 inhabitants, who are called Quitandinens or Quitandinhens and live on an area of ​​around 447 km² (density: 38 inhabitants / km²). The distance to the capital Curitiba is 67 km.

Quitandinha is located in the hydrographic basin of the Rio Iguaçu , to the west of the Rio da Várzea flows past the city. It lies on the first Paranaensic plateau, the Planalto Cristalino , in the Curitiba sedimentary basin . The height around the city is between 820 m and 850 m above sea level. In addition to the Várzea, the smaller rivers Rio do Poço, Rio Caí, Rio Ribeirão Vermelho, Rio do Doce, Rio Lambari, Rio Três Barras and the Arroio da Campina are located in the municipality. Toponymy

The place name is based on the diminutive of the Kimbundu word kitanda (meaning small market stall ), which gave its name to the Kassino Hotel Palácio Quitandinha in Petrópolis and whose name was the godfather of the place.

City administration

After the local elections in 2016, Maria Julia Socek Wojcik from the Partido da Social Democracia Brasileira (PSDB) won the office from 2017 to 2020 , and won 5269 votes. The legislature lies with the Câmara Municipal, German city council or city council, made up of nine elected representatives. Quitandinha forms a multiple district.
