Radio Neumarkt (Rum. Radio Târgu Mureș , Hungarian Marosvásárhelyi Rádió ) is a public radio broadcaster in Romania and has its broadcasting area in the southeastern districts of Transylvania . The station is based in Neumarkt am Mieresch (Roman. Târgu Mureș ). Radio Neumarkt broadcasts in Romanian, Hungarian and German.

History and program

The station was founded in March 1958. Nicolae Ceaușescu closed them down in 1985, fearing that the regional broadcasters would develop too much independence . In the course of the demonstrations against the dictator , the station was revived on December 22, 1989.

The one-hour programs in German are broadcast from Monday to Saturday at 9 p.m. and are primarily aimed at the Transylvanian Saxons . On Sundays, Radio Neumarkt broadcasts a half-hour German program in the mornings. The four-person editorial team in the German department is supported by the Institute for Foreign Relations from Germany. The station is a member of the FunkForum , an association of German-speaking radio stations in Romania, Hungary , Croatia and Serbia , and a partner station of Deutsche Welle .

Antena Brașovului

The station Antena Brașovului , which belongs to Radio Neumarkt, broadcasts a local program for Kronstadt and the surrounding area in Romanian for one hour each morning and evening .
