The Raiffeisen Bank International AG ( RBI ) is the second largest Austrian bank . Your shares are listed on the Vienna Stock Exchange . Just under 59% of the shares are held by the regional Raiffeisen banks , the rest is in free float. In the ranking of the Top 1000 World Banks by the Financial Times publication "The Banker" from July 2018, RBI ranks 125th in terms of capital strength and 129th place in terms of total assets.

history

RBI was originally created through the merger of the customer business areas of Raiffeisen Zentralbank Österreich AG (RZB) with Raiffeisen International Bank Holding AG . The merger took effect on October 11, 2010 when it was entered in the commercial register . RZB remained the central institution of the Raiffeisen Banking Group Austria and the corporate headquarters of the RZB Group.

With a capital increase on the Vienna Stock Exchange in January 2014, RBI increased its equity by 2.78 billion euros. RZB's stake in RBI fell from 78.5 to 60.7 percent. In return, the free float rose from 21.5 to 39.3 percent. The strengthening of the capital base should prepare the bank for the strict capital requirements of Basel III . The 1.75 billion euros in state participation capital raised in 2009 were repaid on June 6, 2014.

In 2016, RBI decided on a transformation program to increase its capital buffer, which should lead to an improvement in the CET1 ratio (fully loaded) to 12 percent by the end of 2017. The planned steps included the sale of the banks in Poland and Slovenia and the withdrawal from the USA and Asia. In addition to strengthening capital, the bank's complexity should be reduced and its risk profile improved. The subsidiary bank in Slovenia was sold in mid-2016. The sale of Raiffeisen Polbank ultimately did not take place in December 2016. With a CET1 ratio (fully loaded) of 13.6 percent, RBI still achieved its capital target by the end of 2016 - one year before the deadline that it set itself.

In 2016 it was also decided to merge RZB and RBI. Formal approval was given at the extraordinary general meeting on January 24, 2017 (RZB: January 23, 2017). The merger was legally concluded with the entry in the commercial register on March 18, 2017. As universal legal successor, RBI took over all of the rights, obligations and tasks of the transferring company RZB.

activity

RBI operates as a commercial and investment bank in Austria and as a universal bank in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) . The subsidiary banks in CEE offer their customers services in corporate, investment and retail banking . The vast majority of customers are private customers as well as small and medium-sized enterprises.

RBI regards Austria and CEE as its home market. 13 markets in the region are covered by subsidiary banks, and the group also includes numerous other financial services companies, for example in the areas of leasing, asset management and mergers and acquisitions. A total of around 47,000 employees in more than 2,100 business outlets serve 16.3 million customers, the vast majority of them in Central and Eastern Europe (as of May 2019).

On April 10, 2018, it was announced that RBI will sell its Polish subsidiary to BNP Paribas except for the foreign currency loans . The transfer was completed in the fourth quarter of 2018.
