The Marksovsky District ( Russian Марксовский район ) is a Raion in the Russian Saratov Oblast . The administrative center is the city ​​of Marx named after Karl Marx .

Geographical location

The Marxowski rajon is centrally located in the Saratov Oblast , about 60 kilometers northeast of the city of Saratow on the eastern banks of the Volga .

Waters

The Rajon is bounded in the west by the Volga . In the westernmost part of the Rajon, on the border with the Engelsski rajon , an estuary of the Great Karaman flows into the Volga.

The Rajon is divided into six rural communities with a total of 57 villages in addition to the town of Marx. The largest settlements (as of 2006) within the Rajon are:

German-speaking minorities

The region of the Rajons Marx stands out due to the high proportion of people of German origin. The independent cultural region of the Volga Germans with seven centers of German culture was founded in the Rajon . There are also eight other localities that were founded by the Swiss :

Economy and Infrastructure

The main industries in the Rajon are food processing and industries. Agriculture focuses on the cultivation of cereals, sunflowers and vegetables as well as on cattle farming. A system of irrigation channels runs through the Rajon to increase production. A large part of the industrial companies deal with the processing of agricultural products from the Rajon and the surrounding area.

There are also deposits of oil and natural gas in the Rajon .
