Randi Crott

Randi Crott (* 1951 in Wuppertal ) is a German journalist who works for radio and television .

Professional background

Randi Crott wrote her first article for the school newspaper at the age of eleven. After finishing school, she studied German and political science in Freiburg and Bonn . She completed her traineeship at the General-Anzeiger in Bonn, where she also got her first job as an editor .

Randi Crott then switched to WDR , where she has worked as an editor, reporter and presenter ever since . On the radio, she moderated, among other things, the midday magazine and Montalk on WDR 2 as well as curiosity is enough and the ARD audio book night on WDR 5 . On television she was to be seen as a presenter in the current hour , in 1000 Hertz , the ARD morning magazine , the mouse club and 3 to 9 on “Radio Bremen”. Since spring 2010 she has been part of the team of moderators for the radio house talks on WDR 5. As a football enthusiast and a fan of Borussia Dortmund , she also presented the club TV program Borussia TV on DSF between 2000 and 2002 . Norbert Dickel was co-moderator .

Randi Crott also shot several documentaries for Arte , 3sat and WDR , such as about the German director Winfried Junge and his long-term film project Die Kinder von Golzow .

Family history

It was only when she was adult that Randi Crott, the daughter of a German and a Norwegian, found out that her father's side had Jewish roots and that members of her family had died in concentration camps . During the Nazi regime, her father was able to hide his origins and evade persecution through his service in the Wehrmacht . As a German occupation soldier, he met his future wife in Norway in 1942. In 2009, after the death of her father Helmut Crott, who never wanted to talk about the past, Randi Crott and her mother Lillian began to research and write down the history of their family.

The book Don't tell anyone! My parents' love story appeared in spring 2012 and soon became a bestseller. The paperback edition has been in the Spiegel bestseller list since September 2013 (highest ranking in the non-fiction category: 3rd place). Crott received the Rheinische Literaturpreis Siegburg for this novel in 2014 .

In 2016, in collaboration with her husband Klaus Martens , this resulted in a documentary of the same name.

In the summer of 2013 the book was also published in Norway under the title Ikke si det til noen .

Randi Crott is the niece of the artist Carl Baumann . She lives on a former farm in the Bergisches Land.
