With 2302 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020), Ranshofen is the fourth most densely inhabited district of Braunau am Inn and at the same time one of the three cadastral communities of the city of Braunau am Inn.
The Scheuhub district of Braunau with 408 inhabitants is also located within the Ranshofen area, which is marked with place-name signs.
history
Ranshofen was first mentioned in a document in 788 as the "ducal Palatinate". In the 11th century, Emperor Heinrich II and his wife Kunigunde founded the parish of Ranshofen .
Ranshofen was incorporated into Braunau am Inn in 1938. Today more than 4000 people live in the area of the former municipality of Ranshofen (with the villages of Aching, Au, Blankenbach, Gasteig, Himmellindach, Lach, Lindach, Maierhof, Oberrothenbuch, Osternberg, Roith, Scheuhub , Tal, Unterrothenbuch).
In 1944/45, a barrack camp for several thousand refugees from Eastern Europe and the Balkans was built in Ranshofen .
