The Rautenbach is a 8.4 km long, southwest and orographically left tributary of the Werra in the north Hessian Werra-Meißner-Kreis .

course

The Rautenbach, which flows entirely in the Frau-Holle-Land Geo-Nature Park (Werratal.Meißner.Kaufunger Wald) rises almost 200 m northeast of the border with the Münden Nature Park on the northeast flank of the main ridge of the Kaufunger Forest . Its source , the Rautenborn , is around 4.4 km (as the crow flies ) south-southwest of the Witzenhausen district of Ziegenhagen between the Häringsnase ( 508.5  m ) in the north-northwest and the Haferberg ( 580.4  m ) in the south at around 475  m above sea level. NHN ; Near the spring, in the east, there is the Bergsporn Hüttenkopf , where a 470  m high point is located on a forest path .

Initially, the Rautenbach flows a short distance north-east and then north through the Kaufunger Forest, to swivel to the north-east as it flows through Ziegenhagen. The brook , running along Kreisstraße  53, which ends as a dead end in the village, passes the castle hill (approx.  270  m ) to the east with the Ziegenberg castle ruins and the Ziegenhagen adventure park to the northeast , leaving the Kaufunger Wald.

A few kilometers north-east of the diamond stream reaches the joke Hausen district Blickershausen to about after which it flows through to the east 128  m height in the coming there from southeast Weser -Quellfluss Werra to open .

Catchment area and tributaries

The tributaries of the Rautenbach , whose catchment area is 17.56 km², include downstream with orographic allocation (l = left-hand side, r = right-hand side), water length , mouth with Rautenbach kilometers and - if known - catchment area size :

  • Schöllbach (r; 2 km), a little above Ziegenhagen , km 7.05
  • Steinbergsbach (l; 3.9 km), in Ziegenhagen, km 3.75 (5.112 km²)

Natural allocation

The Rautenbach flows in the natural spatial main unit group Osthessisches Bergland (No. 35) first in the main unit Fulda-Werra-Bergland (357) through the natural area Hinterer Kaufunger Wald (357.72) and then, after leaving the Kaufunger Wald, in the main unit Lower Werrabergland ( 358) by the subunit Witzenhausen – Hedemündener Werratal (358.4).
