The Rebels Motorcycle Club is an outlaw motorcycle club in Australia with about 70 chapters and 2,000 members nationwide. This makes it the largest motorcycle club in the country.

history

The club was founded in 1969 by Clint Jacks in Brisbane , Queensland under the name " Confederates ". Your Center Patch still has its appearance from that time. It shows a Confederate flag in the background. In the center of the cross there is a skeleton head with a cap and 1% lettering. The Australian Department of Justice views the club as a criminal organization, but the club describes itself as an association of motorcycle freaks. Its current president is former Maltese boxer Alex Vella .

In January 2011, the New Zealand Police announced that a Rebels chapter had opened in New Zealand. The police had warned of the massive numbers of rockers and advised the city council to declare the gang's patches illegal. New Zealand has started evicting Rebels members.

Criminal activity

In November 2000, police raided clubhouses in New South Wales , Queensland and Western Australia . They confiscated drugs, firearms and a crocodile . Some members were arrested.

Two associate members were arrested for the murder of a Bandidos member in a house raid. The bandido was shot dead outside his clubhouse in Breakwater , Victoria on October 22nd .

Rebels member Edin "Boz" Smajovic, a Bosnian immigrant, was shot dead at the Macarthur Auto Center in Campbelltown , New South Wales . 400 Rebels attended his funeral, including Vella. The shooting probably had no gang-typical background.

After a series of house searches, 27 members of the Rebels were arrested on April 23, 2009. They are believed to be responsible for a range of crimes, including drug trafficking ( methamphetamine , heroin and cocaine ), illegal gun possession and theft.

On May 18, 2009, Michael Paul Falzon was sentenced to ten years in prison. He had made methamphetamine and speed in Mackay , Rockhampton and Dalby , and used the Rebels to sell the drugs in Queensland and South Australia . The drug ring existed from 1999 to 2003 and is said to have turned over at least 1.5 million Australian dollars .

On June 16, 2009, Jamie William Dean was arrested on suspicion of setting fire to a chemistry laboratory. In this laboratory he is said to have manufactured drugs himself. Although he denies it, he is counted among the rebels.
