Karl Friedrich Reinhard Schellenberg (born December 5, 1814 in Dinglingen , † February 23, 1890 in Karlsruhe ) was a Protestant theologian and member of the Baden Higher Church Council.

Life

Schellenberg grew up in Gundelfingen , where his father was a pastor. He attended the Berthold-Gymnasium Freiburg and the Karlsruhe Lyceum . In 1835 he began studying theology at the Martin Luther University in Halle-Wittenberg , where he became a supporter of Friedrich Schleiermacher's teaching . He continued his studies at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg and at the seminary in Heidelberg under Richard Rothe . After he had passed the theological state examination in 1839, he took up a vicar position with his father in Gundelfingen and then moved to Bahlingen am Kaiserstuhl , where he represented Pastor Karl Zittel when he was absent during the meetings of the Baden Estates Assembly . After a stopover in Freiburg, he worked in Lörrach from 1845 to 1850 with church councilor Friedrich Wilhelm Hitzig. Here he also taught at the pedagogy . Due to his appearance during the Baden Revolution in 1848/49, he was suspected of sympathizing with the revolutionaries and was transferred to Buchen in 1850 , where he taught at the higher middle school. In 1851 he was transferred to Boxberg as parish administrator and in 1853 he was given a proper pastor's position in Weisweil . His next stop was Eberbach , where he worked as the city pastor until he was elected as city pastor by the Protestant parish of Lörrach in 1864. After two years he also took over the leadership of the local diocese. In the internal church disputes of the 1860s, he was to be found on the liberal side. In 1874 he was appointed to the Baden Oberkirchenrat . He was also employed here as an examiner in the subjects of dogmatics and philosophy. Schellenberg was instrumental in the Baden church book of 1877 and the pericope order of 1881. From 1876–1890 he was head of the Baden State Bible Society .

Due to health problems, he asked for retirement in 1889, which he could not enjoy for long.
