Renée Simonot
Renée Simonot (born September 10, 1911 in Le Havre as Jeanne Renée Deneuve , † July 11, 2021 in Paris ) was a French actress and voice actress . The actresses Catherine Deneuve (* 1943) and Françoise Dorléac (1942–1967) are her daughters.
Life
Jeanne Renée Deneuve was born in Le Havre in 1911. She made her debut as an actress in 1918 at the age of seven at the Paris Théâtre National de l'Odéon , where she remained active for 28 years. As a stage name she chose Simonot , the name of an opera singer who was friends with her family.
Simonot's first major roles at Odéon in Paris in 1921 included Cosette in the stage version of Victor Hugo's Die Elenden (Les Misérables) , which was written by Paul Meurice and Victor Hugo's son Charles.
In addition to her work as an actress, Simonot began working as a voice actress for American films with the advent of the talkie in the early 1930s. She was the French voice of Olivia de Havilland , Donna Reed (including in Isn't Life Beautiful? ), Judy Garland (in The Wizard of Oz ) and Jeanne Crain, as well as numerous other actresses in well-known film classics.
In 1937 Simonot had an illegitimate daughter with the actor Aimé Clariond . In 1940 she married the actor Maurice Dorléac , with whom she had three more daughters: Françoise Dorléac (1942–1967), Catherine Deneuve (* 1943) and Sylvie Dorléac (* 1946), who died in a car accident. Her grandchildren include Christian Vadim and Chiara Mastroianni . Simonot remained married to Maurice Dorléac until his death in 1979.
The consideration represented by Catherine Deneuve main character of Familienmatriarchin Andréa in September 2019 released film Fête de famille is inspired by her mother Renée Simonot according to a statement Deneuve.
Simonot died in July 2021 at the age of 109; she lived in Paris until her death.
