history

With a 124 km long network of dykes, the water area of ​​the Renos was modified, from the right tributary of the Po to an independent water area and its water was in artificial ditches such as the Scoaltore di Reno (Cavo Napoleonico), the Canale Navile (still in operation) and the Derived from Canale Savena. Reno is also the Italian name of the Rhine and just like this, the Reno was called Rhenus in ancient times .

It rises in the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines and flows into the Adriatic after 211 km . It is the tenth longest river in Italy . The river is named Reno in the province of Pistoia at an altitude of 745  meters , where the two watercourses of the Reno di Prunetta (source at an altitude of 1020 meters) and the Reno di Campolungo converge. Its catchment area has a surface of 5,040 km² and its lower reaches are navigable over a length of 30 km. It is the longest watercourse in the Emilia-Romagna region and the longest among those that do not flow into the Po . With a fluctuating amount of water in the first part of the river, the Reno passes the city of Bologna and flows into the Adriatic just south of the Valli di Comacchio .

Tributaries

Along its course, many rivers flow into the Reno (among them the Setta and its tributary Brasimone, the Limentra di Treppio, Silla , Vergatello , Limentra di Sambuca, Samoggia , Idice , Sillaro , Santerno and Senio ).
