Ri Se-gwang (born July 1, 1988 ) is a former North Korean ice hockey player .

Career

Ri Se-gwang made his debut as an 18-year-old at the 2007 Asian Winter Games for the North Korean national team , when the North Koreans finished fifth out of eleven teams. He then played in Division III at the 2008 World Cup and made it unbeaten to Division II, which then turned out to be too strong: In 2009, against Israel (1: 2) and Iceland (2: 3) only with each lost one goal difference, but in the end Ri and his team had five defeats from five games and thus relegation. So in 2010 a new attempt had to be made in Division III and again - this time with a 5-2 final victory over Armenia - the immediate promotion was achieved. But the North Koreans decided not to start at the 2011 World Cup for financial reasons. So it went back down to Division III. But now the men from the north of Korea failed each time because of the hosts: In 2012 it was only enough for second place behind Turkey , a year later the South Africans were stronger. Also in 2014 - now behind Bulgaria - it only reached second place, in 2015 Ri made another attempt towards promotion with the North Koreans at the tournament in Izmir . This time, thanks to a 4-3 win after extra time against the host Turks, he made it to Division II. He then ended his career.

At the club level, Ri played for Taesongsan in the North Korean ice hockey league .
