List of apple varieties

Ribston Pepping (also Ribston Pippin ) also Goldrabau , Englische Granatrenette , Travers Renette , Glory of York or Nonpareille d'Angleterre is an old variety of the cultivated apple (Malus domestica) belonging to the Renetten , which was already in 1708 on the Ribston Castle near Knaresborough in Yorkshire owned lands as a chance seedling (from one of three apple pits obtained from Normandy ) and was spread from there.

fruit

The evenly shaped fruit is medium-sized (approx. 5–6 cm high and 6–7 cm wide), has a dry (not fatty) skin with initially green-yellow, with increasing ripeness pale-golden-yellow base color and red, striped top color. The yellow-white flesh is firm at first, but becomes crumbly as it ripens and is juicy and has a sweet and aromatic taste.

Ribston Pepping is a winter apple , it is ripe for picking in mid to late October and ready to eat from December to February / March.

tree

The medium-strong tree quickly forms wide crowns and is suitable for all forms of training. With regard to the location, it has high demands - it requires nutrient-rich and deep soil and prefers a coastal climate with high humidity and mild winters. Its high location requirements mean that it can hardly be found in commercial cultivation. It is also prone to powdery mildew .

The triploid variety is a poor pollen donor.
