Ricardo Díez-Hochleitner
Ricardo Díez-Hochleitner (born August 11, 1928 in Bilbao , † April 1, 2020 in Madrid ) was an educational reformer, internationally known publisher and honorary president of the Club of Rome .
Life
Díez-Hochleitner studied business administration at the University of Salamanca and Georgetown University and chemistry at the Technical University of Karlsruhe , where he received his doctorate in 1955 . From 1951 to 1955 he worked as a university professor in Spain and Colombia . He then made a career as an educational reformer in international organizations such as UNESCO and OAS , where he was in charge of the development of global educational programs. Díez-Hochleitner was Planning Director for Education in Colombia and State Secretary in the Ministry of Education and Science in Spain.
Alongside and after his educational career, Díez-Hochleitner also worked as a publisher. From 1977 to 2001 he was Vice President of Timon Holding, which included Grupo Santillan and El País . Díez-Hochleitner became internationally known as President of the Club of Rome (1991 to 2000). The organization is known as the “conscience of humanity”.

Among other things, Díez-Hochleitner was a co-founder of the World Forum of Civil Society Networks (UBUNTU) and a board member of the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (IDEA). He was also a member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts , meanwhile as its vice-president. In Germany, Díez-Hochleitner worked on the advisory board of the non-profit Bertelsmann Foundation (1993 to 1998) and as a pioneer of the German-Spanish Forum. He was also head of the international advisory team at the EXPO 2000 world exhibition in Hanover.
Awards
Díez-Hochleitner has received several awards, including the Great Cross of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany (2008). He is multiple honorary doctor :
