Ricardo Vera

Ricardo Vera (full name Ricardo Cirilo Vera Rebollo , born September 16, 1962 ) is a former Uruguayan athlete .

Ricardo Vera, who is 1.86 meters tall, began his sporting activity in the running disciplines as a 16-year-old in school competitions. He already took part in the South American Games with the Uruguayan team in 1982 . There he won the silver medal in the 1500 meter running disciplines and took gold on the 5000 meter course. He ran a new Uruguayan record over 5000 meters in 14:07 minutes .

The following year he was part of the Uruguayan squad at the 1983 Pan American Games . There he took seventh place on the 1500 meter course . In the same year he took part in the 1983 World Athletics Championships in Helsinki . At the South American Athletics Championships in 1985 in Santiago de Chile, he won silver over the 3000 meter obstacle and bronze over 1500 meters. In 1986 he won bronze at the Ibero-American Championships. In 1985 he was the first Uruguayan to win the San Fernando ( Corrida de San Fernando ) run in Maldonado.

He was also present at the 1987 Pan American Games in Indianapolis . At the World Championships that year in Rome , he was eliminated in the preliminary stages. He won bronze at the South American Championships in São Paulo in 1987 and in Medellín in 1989 . In 1989 he moved to Spain. There he lived in Madrid until 2009 and that year moved to Collado Villalba, about 40 kilometers away . In 1990 silver followed at the Ibero-American Championships.

In 1991 he finished 2nd at the Pan American Games in Havana over 3000 meters obstacle. His time was 8: 36.83 minutes. In the same year he did not get past the first round at the World Cup in Tokyo .

In the following year, on June 28, 1992 in Hengelo , he set up his personal career best over a 3000 meter obstacle, when he covered the distance in 8: 23.02 minutes. In that year he also started at the Summer Olympics in Barcelona in 1992 , reached the final over 3000 meters obstacle and finished 12th there. He achieved the same result at the 1993 World Championships in Stuttgart . His fourth and final participation in the 1995 Pan American Games followed two years later . He also started at his fifth world championships . In Atlanta , he was then again in the Uruguayan squad at the 1996 Summer Olympics , but was unable to repeat his success at the previous Olympic Games and was eliminated in the preliminary stages.

On New Year's Day 1999 he and his wife Andrea became parents of their son Esteban.
