Richard Cox Zuckerman (born May 6, 1948 in New York City , New York ) is an American actor .

Life

Cox studied acting at the Yale School of Drama in New Haven , Connecticut and began his acting career in the late 1960s with the soap opera Love of Life . In 1972 he made his debut on Broadway . For his performances on Broadway he was nominated for the Tony Award and the Drama Desk Award in 1979, and in 1981 he received the Clarence Derwent Award for the most promising actor on Broadway . He made his feature film debut in 1974 in the horror film The Ruler of Evil by Oliver Stone . In 1980 Cox played one of his most famous film roles in William Friedkin's thriller Cruising alongside Al Pacino .

Since the early 1980s, Cox was seen less often in feature film roles, instead he starred as a guest in numerous television series. In the 1980s he appeared in Remington Steele , Magnum and Simon & Simon, among others, in the 1990s he starred in Raumschiff Enterprise - The Next Century and Law & Order, and from 2000 onwards he had roles in the X-Files, among others Scary Cases from the FBI , Emergency Room - The Emergency Room , The Closer and CSI: Miami . He had recurring roles in Executive Suite from 1976 to 1977 , in Robert Altman's miniseries Tanner '88 in 1988 , in Ghostwriter from 1992 to 1993 , in Alpha House from 2013 to 2014 and in The Quest in 2015

Cox married actress Joanna Heimbold in 1994.
