Richard Shulmistra (born April 1, 1971 in Sudbury , Ontario ) is a former Canadian ice hockey goalkeeper who from 1997 to 2004 for the New Jersey Devils and Florida Panthers in the National Hockey League and the Eisbären Berlin , as well as the Adler Mannheim in the German Hockey League played.

Career

As a junior he played for Miami University in Ohio in the NCAA . At that time, he was selected by the Québec Nordiques in the 1992 NHL Supplemental Draft . While he was playing in the American Hockey League for Québec's farm team , the Cornwall Aces , the Nordiques moved to Denver.

After he came to no use in the NHL, where Patrick Roy had now been committed, he signed as a free agent with the New Jersey Devils. But here too, Martin Brodeur was an insurmountable goalie and his backup Mike Dunham was a size too big for him. As a result, he only made one game for the Devils and played most of the time on the farm team at the Albany River Rats . This was followed by a detour in the International Hockey League to the Manitoba Moose .

For the 1999/2000 season he tried again in the National Hockey League with the Florida Panthers, but here too there were five goalkeepers in the race and again only one game remained for him. Again he romped through the minor leagues. His stations were in the AHL with the Louisville Panthers , in the IHL the Orlando Solar Bears , the Kansas City Blades and the Chicago Wolves as well as the Florida Everblades in the East Coast Hockey League .

In summer 2001 he moved to Germany and played in the German Ice Hockey League for the Eisbären Berlin. After two years with the Eisbären, he moved to Adler Mannheim in 2003, where he ended his active career in 2004.
