Richard L. Career
Dunn spent his junior years between 1975 and 1977 with the Kingston Canadians and Windsor Spitfires in the Ontario Major Junior Hockey League . There the defender completed a total of 148 games, but did not attract the attention of the National Hockey League franchises .
The American came to the 1977/78 season with the Buffalo Sabers in the NHL. First, he spent some time in the first two years in the farm team , the Hershey Bears , in the American Hockey League - with the start of the 1979/80 season , however, Dunn received a regular place in the NHL squad, which he belonged to until the summer of 1982. With 49 scorer points , he completed his best year in the league in the 1980/81 season . In June 1982, the defender was transferred to the Calgary Flames before the 1982 NHL Entry Draft with Don Edwards , the second-round suffrage in the draft of the same year and the first-round suffrage in the 1983 NHL Entry Draft . In return, the Sabers received the first- and second-round voting rights of the Flames in the drafts of 1982 and 1983.
In Calgary, Dunn only spent one playing year before joining the Hartford Whalers with Joel Quenneville in exchange for Mickey Volcan . After he had been a regular player there in the 1983/84 season , he was deported to the farm team in the following year. In the summer of 1985 he finally returned to the Buffalo Sabers as a free agent . There he was active in the following five years mainly for the Rochester Americans farm team in the AHL, with whom he won the Calder Cup in 1987 . After the 1989/90 season he ended his active career at the age of 33.
Dunn died on September 20, 2016 at the age of 59.
