Rise Sogn ( German: Ries ) is a parish municipality ( Danish : Sogn ) in Northern Schleswig in southern Denmark , which is a few kilometers west of the port city of Aabenraa (German: Aabenraa ). Until 1970 the municipality was the eponymous center of the Harde Rise Herred in what was then Aabenraa-Sønderborg Amt , after which most of the municipality became part of the Rødekro municipality , while the eastern district of Brunde became part of the Aabenraa municipality . Both municipalities in what was then Sønderjyllands Amt were merged into the “new” Aabenraa municipality in the Syddanmark region as part of the municipal reform on January 1, 2007 .

Municipal area

Rise is located west of Aabenraa at the transition from the eastern hill country to the Schleswig Geest . The municipality had 6,478 inhabitants on January 1, 2020, although the dominant settlement focus is no longer the old church village, but rather the north-west of it, the station town of Rødekro with 6026 inhabitants.

history

In the Middle Ages, Rise was the center of the Harde Rise Herred (German: Ries-Harde ) in the Duchy of Schleswig . Together with the Sønder Rangstrup Herred (German: Süderrangstrup-Harde ) and the Birk Varnæs (German: Warnitz ), it formed the Åbenrå Office from the 14th century . When the country was divided in 1490, 1544 and 1581 Ries came almost completely to the Gottorf region. There were very few aristocratic and spiritual scattered goods in the community. The 1860s brought great changes. With the construction of the railway from Flensburg to Fredericia , which for cost reasons was built on the flat Geest past the federation cities of Aabenraa (German: Apenrade ) and Haderslev (German: Hadersleben ), the community was connected to a future main line. The small residential area Rødekro (German: Rothenkrug ) became a railway junction in 1869 when the branch line to Aabenraa was branched off there, at which the church village Rise was also given a stop. From then on, Rødekro developed into an important business location. In 1867 the Duchy of Schleswig fell to Prussia . In 1920 all of North Schleswig was incorporated into Denmark. The southern hinterland was lost due to the new border. But the municipality of Rise and especially Rødekro benefited from the railway junction and, since the 1970s, also from the road junction with the most important motorway connection for Aabenraa. Since then, numerous companies have settled near the motorway, and further expansion of the industrial area is underway. Since the administrative reform in 1970, Rise was part of a larger municipality , which was named after the now dominant place in the area Rødekro . In 2007 this was again part of the Aabenraa municipality .

Economy and Transport

Despite the closure of the railway to Aabenraa in 1971, Rødekro is an important train station as it is the only one for a large area. In the past 20 years, an extensive industrial area has developed around the motorway junction.
