The Robert Bosch Automotive Steering GmbH (to 30 January 2015: ZF Lenksysteme GmbH ), headquartered in Schwabisch Gmund is a German automotive supplier and one of the world leading companies in the field of steering technology . In 1999 the company was supported by a subsidiary of ZF Friedrichshafen AG, a joint venture of Robert Bosch GmbH and ZF Friedrichshafen AG, each held half of the company. The company currently has 20 locations in 8 countries. On January 30, 2015, the company was completely taken over by Bosch.

history

After inflation and the economic crisis of the 1920s , Schwäbisch Gmünd had hit an economic low. The city's traditional silver and jewelery trade barely brought in any sales, with 45 RM per person per year, the tax income was still well below the already weak national average, the city was an economic emergency area. When the special representative of the Reich Aviation Ministry Richard Bullinger, as part of his order to relocate industrial production to the hinterland, considered Schwäbisch Gmünd as the new location for ZF's transmission production , hope was great and all paths were paved. On January 7, 1937, the contract between the city administration and Zahnradfabrik Friedrichshafen AG for the purchase of a piece of land in Ziegelwiesenstrasse to build a new factory was signed in the rococo palace of the city of Schwäbisch Gmünd . The mayor Franz Konrad in particular tried to settle here because he wanted to make the city more independent of the troubled jewelry and silverware factories. The production of transmissions for special vehicles, limited-slip differentials and engine brakes began on June 15 of the same year . In the following year, the Schwäbische Zahnradwerke GmbH was founded and began producing aircraft gearboxes for the Air Force in 1940 in the militarily favorable Schiessal valley . After the end of the war in 1945, the production of ZF steering systems for the civilian market began there, which is still the core business today.

On January 1, 1999, the production of ZF steering systems was transferred to a separate company. In the newly founded joint venture , Robert Bosch GmbH holds 50 percent of the company and is supposed to contribute its expertise in the fields of electronics , electrics and sensor technology , which is particularly important for the development and further development of the new electric steering systems . In the course of this, the new company logo is also introduced, which is supposed to represent a wheel as it rolls towards the viewer in a descriptive curve to the left. In 2001, Plant 7 Gügling in Schwäbisch Gmünd was awarded the Factory of the Year award. As a wholly-owned subsidiary , ZFLS founded ZF Commercial Vehicle Steering Co. Ltd. in 2006 . in Jinan , China . On October 24, 2019, Robert Bosch AS GmbH informed the employees at the Schwäbisch Gmünd site that they would cut an additional 1,000 jobs at the site by the end of 2022, after having signed a site agreement with the works council and IG Metall in 2017, the cost reductions and (also by the end of 2022) plans to cut 760 jobs.
