Robert Coffy

Robert-Joseph Cardinal Coffy (born October 24, 1920 in Le Biot , France , † July 15, 1995 in Saint-Zacharie (Var) , France) was Archbishop of Marseille .

Life

Robert Coffy studied at the Seminary of Annecy the subjects philosophy and Catholic theology and received on 28 October 1944, the sacrament of Holy Orders . From 1944 to 1949 he pursued further studies in Lyon and worked temporarily as a pastor in Annecy. From 1949 he was a member of the faculty of the seminary of Annecy, which he headed from 1952 to 1956 as Regens .

From 1956 to 1967 he worked as vicar general of the Diocese of Annecy , before he was in 1967 by Pope Paul VI. was appointed Bishop of Gap . He was ordained episcopate on April 23, 1967, by Jean Sauvage , Bishop of Annecy ; Co- consecrators were André Charles Collini , Bishop of Ajaccio , and Paul-Marie François Rousset , Auxiliary Bishop in Lyon . In 1974 he became Archbishop of Albi and in 1985 Archbishop of Marseille. Pope John Paul II accepted him in 1991 as a cardinal priest with the titular church of San Luigi Maria Grignion de Montfort in the college of cardinals .

Robert Cardinal Coffy died on July 15, 1995 and was buried in the Cathedral of Marseille .
