Rock a Doodle (alternative title: Rock-a-Doodle - A rooster conquers the city ) is a Don Bluth film from 1991. This film combines elements of real and cartoon films .

action

The story is about a rooster named Chanticleer, who, nicknamed Sir Rock, provides sunshine on a farm, as it is said that it only rises when it crows. But when he is prevented one morning and the sun comes up anyway, everyone thinks he is a cheat and drives him off the farm. At that moment, however, it gets dark and starts pouring rain.

Little boy Edmond, who is reading this in a children's book, believes that this is why it is raining so hard in his home, and shouts Sir Rock's name out the window. But with that he calls the Grand Duke, an evil eagle owl that is the reason for Sir Rock's misfortune. He turns Edmond into a cat and transports him into the world of his book, where he meets all of his friends. Edmond travels to town with Patou the Dog, Peepers, the Mouse and Snipes the Magpie to call Sir Rock. The Grand Duke sends his clumsy nephew Hunch after to prevent this. Sir Rock is a celebrated rock star in town under the name "The King". His manager, the insidious fox Pinky, who is also in the service of the Grand Duke, instructs the golden pheasant Goldie to ensnare Sir Rock so that he forgets his friends.

But the friends manage to bring Sir Rock back to the farm, which has now almost been flooded by the rain. Unfortunately, Sir Rock does not believe that he can make amends for everything that the Grand Duke uses to provoke him with insults and magic tricks. However, his friends cheer him on, so that the Grand Duke wraps himself in his magic breath with anger and grows into a gigantic hurricane. Finally, Sir Rock's ambition wins and he crows the sun, at the sight of which the Grand Duke shrinks to the size of a beetle. Hunch takes advantage of this to get revenge on his uncle for earlier unjust treatments. Edmond, now back in his human form, wakes up in his bed to find that the rain has stopped.

Emergence

The film is based, loosely adapted, on the comedy Chantecler , an animal fable written by Edmond Rostand in 1910. Rostand was best known for his romantic-comedic verse drama Cyrano de Bergerac (1897). One of the protagonists of the film, the little boy, bears his first name Edmond as a reminder of Rostand . Sir Rock's clothing and name "King" are based on Elvis Presley , the King of Rock 'n' Roll .

success

  • In the US, the film grossed $ 11.7 million.
