Rodrigo of Bistram
Rodrigo Gregor von Bistram ( Russian : Бистром, Родриг Григорьевич; born September 15, 1809 in Jakobstadt ; † December 20, 1886 in Saint Petersburg ) was a Baltic baron , lieutenant general , adjutant general and infantry general in the Imperial Russian Army .
Life
Rodrigo Grigorjewitsch von Bistram initially served as a sergeant from 1827 in one of the famous Russian Old Guards , the Semyonovsky Bodyguard Regiment , and was promoted to ensign in 1828 . During his assignments in the Russo-Turkish War from 1828 to 1829 and in 1831 in the November Uprising in Poland , he was distinguished by his bravery and willingness to work and advanced to become a captain . In 1845 he was promoted to colonel and in 1851 appointed wing adjutant to his imperial majesty. When he was promoted to major general in 1853, he also became commander of the Semyonovsky bodyguard regiment which he led in the Crimean War . From 1855 he served in the imperial suite and in 1860 became adjutant general to his majesty. From 1860 to 1868 he commanded the 2nd Guard Infantry Division, which was deployed in Poland in 1863 . In 1861 he was promoted to lieutenant general, from 1868 to 1879 he was employed as an assistant to the commanding officer of the guard and all troops in the St. Petersburg military district . He was ultimately appointed General of the Infantry in 1869 and had been a member of the War Council of the Russian Empire since 1874 .

Origin and family
Rodrigo von Bistram came from the Baltic noble family von Bistram (from the house of Born-Rimahlen and Sussey). His parents were the lawyer Karl Gotthard Wilhelm Ernst von Bistram (1777–1841) and Apollonia von Engelhardt . His brother was the lawyer Conrad von Bistram (1816–1890). In his first marriage he was married to Katharina von Tornauw from the house of Gieducz (Lithuania) (1823–1861) from 1845 and from 1866 in his second marriage to Marie von Hahn (1822–1900). Her sons were Ferdinand von Bistram (1845-1915) and Nikolai von Bistram (* 1849 in Saint Petersburg, † 1913 in Grenztal). Nikolai v. B. was from 1880 Lord on Grenztal (Slugtin) and godchild of Tsar Nikolaus II. Nikolai married Friedericke Wilhelmine von der Ropp († 1943 in Strasbourg ), whose son Roderich von Bistram (1886-1968) was a Baltic politician, nationalist and Co-founder of the association of the founders of the order "Organization X" (1920–1928), the later Brotherly Circle .
