The Rohrbach is an almost 18 km long, right-hand or northeastern tributary of the Saar , east of Saarbrücken , Saarland . The Rohrbach is also called Scheidter Bach after it has left St. Ingbert .

course

The Rohrbach rises on the northern flank of the Kahlenberg and flows through the St. Ingbert valley . Its source is located in the Rohrbach district of St. Ingbert, north of federal motorway 6, near the former location of the Heckel company. A few meters above the source, the Mannheim – Saarbrücken railway passes near the Rohrbach train station ; A rain retention basin is located directly above the railway line and drains into the Rohrbach through a railway embankment.

From there the Rohrbach initially flows northeastwards through the Rohrbach district, where it crosses the Bundesstraße 40 ( Kaiserstraße ) and then the town's fairground; henceforth he accompanies the federal highway and railway line, sometimes more and sometimes less. In the village it turns first to the north and then to the northwest. Then the Mutterbach joins the former Rohrbacher Mühle from the right , which brings the water from the Kleberbach (from the Glashütte Weiher ) and the Spieser Mühlenbach coming from the direction of Spiesen-Elversberg . From here the Rohrbach flows in a westerly direction through a flat valley that is partially used for agriculture and in which the Im Glashüttental / Rohrbachtal nature reserve is located. The Wombach, which has mostly fallen dry from the Wombacher Weiher, flows into it from the right .

After that, the Rohrbach flows through mostly piped and built over the core town of St. Ingbert to the southwest. It is locally called Großbach there. In the city flow from the left (south side) the Wollbach and from the right (north side) the Mäusbach , the Rischbach and the Gehnbach .

After the stream has flowed through Rentrisch (to St. Ingbert) and Scheidt ( Saarbrücken ), it takes the Grumbach from the left (east side) in Schafbrücke (Saarbrücken) . Then in Brebach (Saarbrücken) after leaving the B 40 as well as the Mannheim – Saarbrücken railway line , it passes the right-hand (west) Halberg .

After crossing under the federal highway 51 and the Saarbrücken – Saargemünd railway line , the Rohrbach flows into the Saar in Brebach together with the Saarbach ( Fechinger Bach ) in the area of the St. Arnualer Wiesen .

Nature reserve Im Glashüttental / Rohrbachtal

In Rohrbachtal between Rohrbach and St. Ingbert the 48.71  ha large nature reserve in Glashüttental / Rohrbachtal ( CDDA -No. 163866). It was expelled on November 5, 1990. The purpose of protection is

“The maintenance, promotion and development of a near-natural, richly structured floodplain section of the Rohrbach and Kleberbach with the adjacent valley slopes. The communities of humid and wet meadows, the sedge meadows, tall herbaceous meadows, reed beds, willow bushes and alder swamp forests offer a large number of plant and animal species, including several rare and endangered, suitable habitats. "

History and renaturation

Mills and sawmills have existed along the Rohrbach since the Middle Ages, and hammer mills from the early period until the beginning of the 20th century. In the area of the Rentrisch waterworks, extensive renaturation measures have been carried out in recent years , some of which have given the Rohrbach its natural bed back.

The Rohrbacher Mühle , which had been demolished for a long time, was acquired by private individuals in 2014 and extensively renovated. Apartments and offices were created.
