Rolf Schmidt-Gentner

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Rolf Schmidt-Gentner (born September 7, 1925 in Berlin ; † May 14, 2005 in Vienna ) was a German-Austrian sound engineer for Austrian film.

Life

The son of the well-known composer Willy Schmidt-Gentner grew up in Vienna in 1933 and trained as a sound engineer in the early post-war years. After a time as a sound assistant, his most important employer until 1965, Sascha-Film Herbert Gruber , let him work as a chief sound engineer from 1958, initially as a junior partner of his experienced colleague Herbert Janeczka .

In the late phase of the highly commercial Austrian entertainment film, Schmidt-Gentner provided the sound for a number of popular comedy clothes, often with Peter Alexander in the lead role. When the Austrian film industry collapsed in 1965, Schmidt-Gentner was unemployed for five years.

It was not until 1970, when the wave of German film adaptations of Johannes Mario Simmel's novels began , that the Viennese by choice was able to reconnect with the film scene. He now provided cinema and television films with the good sound, partly from the hands of respected local filmmakers such as Peter Patzak , Axel Corti and Xaver Schwarzenberger , but also popular series such as Die Alpensaga and Kottan . Rolf Schmidt-Gentner ended his professional life when he reached retirement age in 1990.
