Romanza is the first compilation album by the Italian crossover singer Andrea Bocelli , which was put together in 1996 and released in Germany in 1997. It includes Bocelli's best-known and most successful songs to date, such as Time To Say Goodbye , which he sang with Sarah Brightman , as well as the German version of the duet Vivo Per Lei and Il Mare Calmo Della Sera , with which Bocelli was successful at the 1994 Sanremo Festival in the Nouve Proposte category .

It turned out to be his most successful album for Bocelli, it won awards in many countries and has sold around 19 million copies to date.

content

The album Romanza was preceded by two pop albums by Bocellis, his debut album Il Mare Calmo Della Sera from 1994 and Bocelli , which was released the following year. No song was taken from the classic album Viaggio Italiano .

The album contains the song Con te Partirò , which Bocelli sang in San Remo in 1995. In 1994, he performed with Il Mare Calmo Della Sera , composed by Zucchero . With a participant from Sanremo, Gerardina Trovato , Bocelli Vivere recorded for his album, which was also written by Trovato among others.

In addition, Bocelli interpreted the song Caruso in Romanza , which was written by Lucio Dalla in 1986 and is about the Italian tenor Enrico Caruso . Even Luciano Pavarotti later sang this song on his pop album.

Another song that appeared on the 1995 Bocelli album was Macchine da Guerra , an anti-war song . Also Vivo Per Lei found on Romanza again, Bocelli had it with different singer from most Romance-speaking countries, such as Marta Sánchez sung, but appeared in Romaanza the German-Italian version with Judy Weiss , who was also a successful single release in the charts in Switzerland, it rose to number one on the charts.

Romanza , the song after which the album was named, was written by Mauro Malavasi , who later wrote several songs for Bocelli, including for the 1999 album Sogno .

Another song from Bocelli is Voglio Restare Così , which Bocelli himself wrote.

A bonus song on the album was a live version of the song Miserere , through which Bocelli was able to draw public attention for the first time. The version on the album was recorded during the Night of the Proms concert in 1995 . Bocelli sang it for the first time in 1992 with Zucchero, who had composed it himself in addition to Bono . Because Zucchero had asked for a tenor part, he was asked to sing with Pavarotti, who declined, so that Bocelli was allowed to sing. On the album they both sang it with John Miles .

Success with Romanza

For Bocelli it was the most successful album to date, it reached number one in numerous national charts, such as in Italy, Switzerland and Austria. In the United States, it stayed on the charts for 91 weeks. In total, it was sold about 19 million times.
