Viaggio Italiano is the first classic studio album by the Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli . The content of the album is mainly provided with titles from the Italian-speaking, Neapolitan songs are also available under such as O Sole Mio . It has made it to the top of many national charts, although it includes almost exclusively classical music.

The album was released on a national level in 1995, further releases in other countries mainly took place in 1996, such as in November in Germany. In some countries, the album did not hit the charts until 1998, for example in the United States , where it did not appear on the Billboard charts until late March 1998. in the catalog albums it was only released on June 30, 2001 and was able to establish itself there at number 19.

Viaggio Italiano was initially only published in Italy and sold almost 300,000 times there. After it appeared in international markets, it has been sold about two million times to date.

It was awarded the ECHO for Classical Music in 1997.

content

The album opened with the world-famous aria Nessun dorma from the opera Turandot by Giacomo Puccini . Shortly afterwards, Giuseppe Verdi's titles can also be found, to whom Bocelli even dedicated an album entitled Verdi in 2000 .

In addition to the Italian titles that appear at the beginning, there are also Latin texts, for example Bocelli sang the Ave Maria based on the version by Franz Schubert .

This was followed by Neapolitan songs that have an international reputation, especially whether the song O Sole Mio to name. In the album Bocelli wrote self- deprecatingly [m] i scusco di coure con tutti i napoletani per il mio accento ( I apologize wholeheartedly to all the Neapolitans for my accent ), since it doesn't come from Naples itself , but further north from Tuscany . However, he subsequently promised to improve his pronunciation.

Bocelli was accompanied during the recordings by the Moscow Radio Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Vladimir Ivanovich Fedosejew . Bocelli received choral support from The Academy of Choir Art of Russia , directed by Victor Popov. The Neapolitan songs, on the other hand, were created instrumentally by the Neapolitan orchestra under the direction of Renato Serios .

The last song, Adeste Fideles, is a live recording from a performance by Bocelli. It was recorded by Media Sound on December 16, 1994. In the recording, which is called Massaggio Bocelli or partly Message Bocelli , he announces in advance that Adeste Fideles will be heard and informs the listener that he has had the honor of performing this version before the Pope.

Thanks and dedication

As in the album Bocelli , which was released in 1995, Bocelli thanked, among others, Franco Corelli , whom he regards as his teacher. After the list of thanked people, Bocelli added that he wanted to thank ai miei genitori, a mia moglie Enrico ea mio figlio ( to my parents, my wife Enrica and my son ).

Bocelli had intended to dedicate the album Viaggio Italiano to Italian emigration, which took place mainly to the United States in the 19th century, which explains the title of the album ( Italian Journey ).

reception

Sarah Bryan Miller wrote after the album was released on October 1, 1997, that Bocelli was really suitable to sing these arias ( [t] he best contender so far is Andrea Bocelli ), but admitted that one could with the recordings of the boy Luciano Pavarotti was better served ( [a] nyone with a real interest in tenor arias would be much better advised to check out recordings by the young Luciano Pavarotti ). Remarked to his voice Miller almost entirely negative, she opened this chapter although with the praise, Bocelli's voice sounded genuine ( real voice ), he had sometimes even the ability really an exciting tenor voice to it's own ( a really exciting tenor sound ) but in general Miller complained that Bocelli was qualitatively poor, it appeared that Bocelli could not understand the exact meaning of the words he Singe or convey to the listener, even though he was Italian himself.

The Moscow Orchestra Miller noted that it cumbersome ( stogily ) games.
