Ronald Davis (as artist: Ron Davis ) (born June 29, 1937 in Santa Monica , California , USA ) is an American painter , printmaker and object artist . life and work

Ronald Davis grew up in Cheyenne , Wyoming . From 1955 to 1956 he attended the University of Wyoming at Laramie . In 1959, at the age of 22, he began to be interested in painting. From 1960 to 1964 he studied at the San Francisco Art Institute . At that time, Abstract Expressionism was the predominant artistic movement of that time, which had a significant impact on its artistic development. In 1962 he attended the Summer School of Music and Art at Yale University in Norfolk .

In the early 1960s he created paintings in the style of hard-edge, geometric abstraction and also Op-Art . With these works he was represented in 1961, 1962 and 1963 at the San Francisco Arts Festivals and in 1963 and 1964 at the Richmond Art Center.

He had his first solo exhibition at the Nicholas Wilder Gallery in Los Angeles . In 1966, Davis was a lecturer at the University of California at Irvine . That year he had a solo exhibition at the Tibor de Nagy Gallery in New York City , followed in 1968 by a solo exhibition at the Leo Castelli Gallery in New York. Also in 1968 four colored fiberglass objects by him were shown at the 4th documenta in Kassel in the sculpture department .

His works are included (among other things) in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art in New York City, the Tate Gallery in London , the Los Angeles County Museum, the Whitney Museum of American Art and the Art Institute of Chicago . He was awarded a National Endowment for Art . In recent years, Davis has become a pioneer in the new artistic expressions of digital painting and digital art . Davis lived and worked in Los Angeles from 1965 to 1971 and in Malibu , California from 1972 to 1990 . In 1991 he moved to Arroyo Hondo, near Taos, New Mexico.
