Stadlober was one of the world's best slalom runners in the 1980s . Initially, she also started in the giant slalom , in which she also won her first World Cup points with 13th place (starting number 59!) On March 12, 1980 at the season finale in Saalbach-Hinterglemm . She celebrated her first World Cup victory on March 8, 1983 in the slalom of Waterville Valley (USA). This victory was followed by seven more in the years to come. In 1986 she won the Slalom World Cup for the first time thanks to four victories this season in Sestriere , Maribor , Saint-Gervais-les-Bains and in Waterville Valley. On November 26, 1983, she was the slalom winner at the World Series of Skiing in Bormio, which was only part of the Nations Cup .
She got her first "little ball" in slalom with her victory in the last competition of the season on March 18, 1986 in Waterville Valley, where she drove from 11th to victory in the second run. Like Erika Hess , she got 110 points, but had four wins this season (Hess had two)
At the 1987 World Championships in Crans-Montana , she won the silver medal behind Swiss Erika Hess in slalom. Gold was then within the scope of the possibilities. After the first run she was 1.33 seconds ahead, but in the second run she was caught by an unleashed Hess by 0.25 seconds. In her last season in 1988, she was again victorious in the Slalom World Cup. In the absence of the previous leader Vreni Schneider , who fell a few days earlier in the same place in the (then canceled) descent and was seriously injured with an inner ligament tear in her right knee , she led a four-fold success for Austria on March 6 at the slalom in Aspen ; this only win of the season brought her to first place in the slalom classification with 86 points. Roswitha Steiner is married to the former world-class cross-country skier Alois Stadlober , the cross-country skier Teresa Stadlober is her daughter, Luis Stadlober her son. From 1999 to 2004 she was the sports spokesperson for the ÖVP in the Salzburg state parliament . She is a founding member and managing director of the KADA association, which deals with career advice and work integration for high-performance athletes. To this day she regularly competes in sports and marathons .
