Roszkowice ( German Roßdorf ) is a village in the Gmina Niemodlin , in the Powiat Opolski , the Opole Voivodeship in southwest Poland .

Geographical location

Roszkowice is about 5 kilometers west of the municipal seat of Niemodlin (Falkenberg) and about 30 kilometers west of the district town and voivodeship capital Opole . Roszkowice lies in the Nizina Śląska (Silesian Plain) within the Równina Niemodlińska (Falkenberg Plain) .

To the northwest of Roszkowice lies Rogi (dt. Rogau ) and in the east Piotrowa (Petersdorf) .

history

The village was first mentioned in documents in 1396. The village was mentioned as Rosdorff in 1415 . In 1534 the place was mentioned again as Roskhawitz . Archaeological finds prove that the area around Rossdorf was already settled in Germanic and Celtic times.

After the First Silesian War in 1742, Roßdorf and most of Silesia fell to Prussia . In 1764 a school was established in the village.

In 1845 the village consisted of 48 houses, a school and a farm. In the same year, 368 people lived in Roßdorf, 130 of them Catholic. In 1855 383 people lived in the village. In 1865 the village had 2 schoolyards, 10 farms, 15 gardeners and 11 cottagers. The evangelical school was attended by 78 students in the same year. In 1874 the administrative district of Schloss Falkenberg was founded, which consisted of the rural communities Gnichwitz, Jatzdorf, Lips, Petersdorf, Roßdorf, Scheppanowitz, Springsdorf and Weschelle and the estate districts Gnichwitz, Falkenberg, Schloß, Jatzdorf, Lips, Petersdorf, Roßdorf, Scheppanowitz, Springsdorf and Weschelle . In 1885 Roßdorf had 324 inhabitants.

In 1933, 330 people lived in Roßdorf. In 1939 the village had 313 inhabitants. Until the end of the war in 1945, the place Roßdorf belonged to the district of Falkenberg OS

In March 1945 the village was captured by the Red Army . Then the previously German town of Roßdorf came under Polish administration, was renamed Roszkowice and joined Gmina Niemodlin. In June 1946 the remaining German population was expelled. In 1950 the place came to the Opole Voivodeship . In 1999 the place came to the re-established Powiat Opolski as part of Gmina Niemodlin .
