The Route 5 or short R5 is a highway in the Sultanate of Oman . The highway runs from Al Aqar to the United Arab Emirates border . The R5 is signposted as a motorway with 2 and 2 lanes on both sides. Instead of R5, the designation "Al Aqar-Hatta Rd" is common.

course

The Route 5 begins at Al Aqar R / A . From Al Aqar R / A leading Route 1 further Chatmat in the north and Sohar and Muscat in the south. From Al Aqar R / A the R5 leads through a barren plain past the village of Ajib. Other smaller settlements are further away from the R5. After 25 kilometers is the imaginary border line with the United Arab Emirates , the Oman border post is around five kilometers from the border. The R5 continues in the United Arab Emirates as the E44 . After 22 kilometers the E44 ends and leads back to Oman as the R5. The city of Hatta is on the E44 . Route 5 continues for 20 kilometers in the national territory of Oman until it finally merges into the E44 , further to Dubai . There is no village on the R5, only Jabal Ravda is a landmark on the bland road. In the Emirate of Abu Dhabi , Madam is the next larger town.

Border disputes

Again and again there are disagreements between the United Arab Emirates and Oman as to who is allowed to drive on the road. Most of the time tourists are affected. The normal fee for the passage of an Emirati is 35Dh.
