Rubus niveus ( English Mysore raspberry, Ceylon raspberry, hill raspberry ; Chinese  红 泡 刺 藤 , Pinyin hong pao ci teng ; Hindi काला हिसालू kala hinsalu ) is a species of the rose family. It is native to South Asia from Afghanistan eastwards via India and China to Taiwan and the Philippines , southwards to Sri Lanka and Malaysia and northwards to Gansu in China.

Rubus niveus is a shrub up to 2.5 meters in height. The shoots are initially tomentose, but later turn smooth green to purple. The leaves are pinnate with 5… 11 (mostly 7 or 9) leaflets, each 2.5… 8 cm long and 1… 4 cm wide, dark green on top and pale green to almost white tomentose on the underside. The flowers are about one centimeter in diameter and have five dark pink to red petals . The fruit has a diameter of 8… 12 millimeters. It is dense gray tomentose, initially dark red and black when ripe.

Cultivation

Rubus niveus is grown for its edible fruits. It has spread as an invasive species in Hawaii and the Galapagos Islands .
