The place originated in the 13th century at the latest and was first mentioned in documents in 1228. 1295–1305 two places were mentioned in a document in the Liber fundationis episcopatus Vratislaviensis (tithe register of the diocese of Wroclaw) with the names "Rudno Symonis" and "Rudno Jankonis". Either it is the two now united places Groß- and Klein-Rudnau or the second place could be today's Rudziniec.

The place was mentioned in 1783 in the book Additions to the Description of Silesia as Rudno , consisted of two parts and was in the Tost district of the Principality of Opole . At that time, one part had a grand Vorwerk , a Catholic church and school, five farmers and eight gardeners . The second part had a farm, two farmers, eleven gardeners and a few cottagers. In 1865 Rudno or Rudnau consisted of an estate and a community. The community was divided into Groß-Rudno and Klein-Rudno. At that time the community had six farm positions, 27 gardener positions and 18 cottages.

In the referendum in Upper Silesia on March 20, 1921, 117 people eligible to vote locally voted for Upper Silesia to remain with Germany and 241 for membership in Poland. After the division of Upper Silesia, Rudnau remained with the German Empire . In 1936 the place was renamed Braunbach in the wake of a wave of renaming during the Nazi era . Until 1945 the place was in the district of Tost-Gleiwitz .

When the Red Army took the place in January 1945, they murdered twelve civilians between the ages of 31 and 73 on January 25. In 1945 the formerly German town came under Polish administration and was then attached to the Silesian Voivodeship and renamed the Polish Rudno . 1950 the place came to the Voivodeship Katowice. In 1999 the place came to the re-established Powiat Gliwicki and the Silesian Voivodeship.
