Rudolf Hrušínský senior ( Czech Rudolf Hrušínský starší , born as Rudolf Böhm ; born  October 17, 1920 in Nový Etynk , † April 13, 1994 in Prague ) was a Czech actor and politician.

Hrušínský was part of the Czech National Theater ensemble for almost thirty years. He became internationally known in 1956 for his role as the good soldier Schwejk based on the novel by Jaroslav Hašek , which he embodied in two feature films in 1956 and 1957. In 1968 he played the leading role in the film Lerchen am Faden , which was awarded the Golden Bear at the Berlinale . Other well-known films with him are The Circus Is Playing (1954), Murder at Home (1967), The Burner (1969) by Juraj Herz , in which he portrays a crematorium employee fascinated by death during the Nazi era, Adele has not yet had dinner (1977) and company Kugelblitz (other title: Aktion Kugelblitz ) (1978), here he plays a lawyer who organizes a ring exchange of apartments. In Heimat, sweet Heimat (1986) by Jiří Menzel , he appeared together with his son Rudolf Hrušínský junior and his grandson Rudolf Hrušínský the youngest , the film was nominated for an Oscar . Even the elementary school (1991) by Jan Svěrák received an Oscar nomination, embodied here as a school principal Hrušínský one of his last roles.

Politician

In 1968, Hrušínský was banned from performing for seven years after signing a civil rights initiative.

In 1989 he campaigned for a non-violent turn in politics. For a short time he was elected a member of the CSFR parliament, of which he was a member until 1992.

family

Rudolf Hrušínský's father, Rudolf Hrušínský the Elder (1897-1956), born as Rudolf Böhm in Liboc, was also a well-known Czech actor, since 1935 he performed under the stage name Rudolf Hrušínský .

After the Beneš decrees were approved by the National Assembly in 1946, the family officially changed their name from Böhm to Hrušínský in order to avoid expulsion from their Bohemian homeland.

His two sons Rudolf (* 1946) and Jan (* 1955) and his grandson Rudolf (* 1970) also became actors.

He is buried in the Olšany Cemetery in Prague.
