Theodor Rudolph August Koepp (born February 16, 1830 in Biebrich , † April 6, 1897 in Wiesbaden ) was a chemist, entrepreneur and member of the German Reichstag .

Life

Koepp was born in Biebrich as the seventh child of the ducal-Nassau head cellar master Friedrich Reinhard Koepp . He attended the secondary school in Wiesbaden and studied natural sciences at the universities of Würzburg and Marburg . He dedicated himself to the chemical industry and in 1859 founded the company Rudolph Koepp & Co. Chemische Werke in Oestrich , which was the first in Germany to produce oxalic acid and formic acid on an industrial scale.

From 1888 until his death in 1897 Koepp was President of the Wiesbaden Chamber of Commerce and Industry , and from 1893 until his death a member of the German Reichstag for the constituency of Wiesbaden administrative district 2 Wiesbaden , Rheingau , Untertaunus and the Liberal Association .

Honors

Koepp was given the honorary title of " Royal Prussian Council of Commerce " during his lifetime . In Oestrich, not far from the factory premises, a street was named after Koepp.
