Ruf (family name)

Ruf is a family name that occurs mainly in German-speaking countries. He rarely appears as a male first name .

origin

Call is as Patronym on the truncated form reputation of the male first name Rudolf recycled.

Other authors indicate other possible origins. Erwin Manuel Dreifuss traces the name back to Rufus . Lars Menk attributes it to Ruben . Menk as well as Eva and Heinrich Guggenheimer also trace it back as a professional name to the Hebrew word 'רופא' = 'rofe' = 'doctor, healer'.
