Ryan Keberle (born June 16, 1980 ) is an American jazz trombonist .

Live and act

Keberle graduated from the Manhattan School of Music in 2001 , where he studied with Steve Turre , Mike Abene and Manny Albam . After receiving the William H. Borden Award , he continued his studies with Wycliffe Gordon and David Berger at the Institute for Jazz Studies at the Juilliard School . Since then he has been working in New York City in the fields of jazz , Latin music , classical music and rock music , etc. a. as a member of the Saturday Night Live Band on NBC . In 2003 he was among the finalists at the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Trombone Competition . He was a member of the Maria Schneider Orchestra and Darcy James Argues Secret Society ; he has also worked in the field of jazz with Wynton Marsalis and the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, Frank Wess , Jimmy Heath , Slide Hampton , Charles McPherson , Percy Heath , Teo Macero , Joe Lovano , Eric Reed , Ivan Lins , Jon Hendricks , Madeleine Peyroux and Esteban Jordan . As a studio musician, he has also worked with artists such as Justin Timberlake , Beyoncé , Mariah Carey , Rihanna , Mary J. Blige and Alicia Keys . In 2007 he made his debut album with the Ryan Keberle Double Quartet (with Marshall Gilkes , among others ), followed in 2010 by Heavy Dreaming . In 2011 he worked on Ryan Truesdell's Gil Evans project Centennial - Newly Discovered Works of Gil Evans . He plays with the Big Sackbut wind ensemble , which also includes Joe Fiedler , Josh Roseman and Marcus Rojas ; In 2014 he presented the album Music Is Emotion , in 2017 with his formation Ryan Keberle & Catharsis the production Find the Common, Shine a Light. The production I Hope I Hold followed in 2019 .

In 2001 Keberle was Artistic Director of the New York Youth Orchestra Jazz Band Classic , which premiered with a Jimmy Heath program and also performed at Carnegie Hall . Since 2004 he has been teaching in the jazz program at Hunter College .

In 2015 he won the Down Beat Critic Polls in the Rising Star category.
