Ryan Poehling (born January 3, 1999 in Lakeville , Minnesota ) is an American ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Canadiens de Montréal from the National Hockey League since March 2019 and also for their farm team, the Rocket de Laval , in the American Hockey League plays on the position of the center .
Career
After Ryan Poehling had played three seasons for his high school, Lakeville North High School, he was selected in 2015 as the first draft pick by the Lincoln Stars in the Entry Draft of the United States Hockey League , for which he however only scored nine games since he began studying at St. Cloud State University . For the team of the university he then ran for three years in the National Collegiate Athletic Association . In 2017 he was chosen by the Canadiens de Montréal from the National Hockey League as the 25th draft pick in the NHL Entry Draft , but initially finished his studies. In April 2019 Poehling made his debut for the Canadiens and scored a hat trick in his first NHL game against the Toronto Maple Leafs .
At the beginning of the 2019/20 season, Poeling is initially mostly on the ice with the Canadiens farm team in the American Hockey League (AHL), the Rocket de Laval .
International
In 2017 Poehling won the gold medal at the U18 Junior World Championship with the United States U18 team. In the following year he won the bronze medal at the U20 Junior World Championship with the U20 team . At the U20 World Junior Championship in 2019 , he lost the final against Finland with the United States and won the silver medal. At the end of the tournament he was named the best striker and most valuable player of the tournament.
