Ryszard Witke (born November 9, 1939 in Sanok , German Reich ) is a former Polish ski jumper . He became Polish master in 1963 , making him the first Polish master from the Sudetenland .

Career

Witke grew up in a sporty family in Karpacz . At the age of nineteen he took part in the Polish championships in Szczyrk and was able to achieve results among the top ten. As a graduate of the University of Wrocław Witke took part in the Winter Universiade in Chamonix in 1960, where he narrowly missed the podium in fourth.

After good performances at the national championships Witke was planned as an integral part of the Polish national team for the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1962 in Zakopane, home . However, he fell a few days before the start of the Wielka Krokiew hard and pulled a fracture of the wrist and a concussion to, so he had to cancel his participation. In 1963 Witke celebrated his greatest national success when he won the championship.

In the following years Witke was one of the best Polish ski jumpers, which he demonstrated by winning the Czech Marusarzówna Memorial Ski Jumping Competition twice in 1965 and 1966 and by placing the podium in the overall ranking of the Beskydy Tour in 1965 and 1967. Witke was also the best Pole at the Nordic World Ski Championships in Oslo in 1966 when he finished seventh on the normal hill, tied with Horst Queck .

Witke took part in the Four Hills Tournament several times between 1961 and 1972 . When jumping from Bergiselschanze in Innsbruck , he achieved his best result in 1968 with ninth place. After eleventh place in Bischofshofen , he completed the Four Hills Tournament 1967/68 in tenth place, which is his best overall placement.

He took part in the Winter Olympics twice without success. After the 1971/72 season Witke announced his retirement from ski jumping.

After finishing his career he became a coach at his hometown club Śnieżka Karpacz and worked as a judge at the FIS . In addition, he was involved in the reconstruction of the Orlinek ski jump in Karpacz and the ski jump in Lubawka . His son Robert Witke also became a ski jumper.
