As Genus VII and VII TS TS designated Royal Saxon State Railways zweifachgekuppelte tank locomotives for the secondary rail . In 1925, the Deutsche Reichsbahn classified the only locomotive it had taken over into the 98.70 class .

history

From the end of the 1870s, the decision was made in Saxony to reduce the effort for secondary lines with the introduction of so-called secondary railways. Simpler routing, a lighter superstructure, lower travel speeds and the elimination of railway surveillance should minimize the construction and operating costs accordingly.

Passenger train with a VII TS in Cunewalde station (around 1900)

The Sächsische Maschinenfabrik in Chemnitz supplied a total of 15 small, light wet steam locomotives for these routes in 1880, 1883, 1887 and 1890. Two of the locomotives went to the Altenburg-Zeitzer railway company , whose operation, however, also from the Kgl Saxon. State Railways was concerned.

As S ekundärbahn- T the manufacturer forming locomotives H artmann wore it first generic characters H VII TS , later only VII TS .

After Prussia good experience with the Verbund concept had made, two machines were about 1889 tentatively V rebuilt erbundlokomotiven. From then on they carried the generic designation H VII TSV or later VII TSV .

Only one locomotive with the number 1508 made it to the Deutsche Reichsbahn. This later got the new number 98 7011, but was soon retired. Another locomotive (track number 1512, ex 813 KÖBLITZ ) was a work locomotive in Raw Chemnitz from 1923 . After 1945 it was reintegrated into the company's portfolio and was given the new number 98 1512, before being given the number 98 7085 in 1953. It was not finally taken out of service until the summer of 1963.

Double locomotives 1496 A / B, 1499 A / B, 1500 A / B

Around the First World War , traffic on the Saxon secondary railways had increased to such an extent that double skins were increasingly required. Therefore - similar to the practice of coupling two narrow-gauge locomotives from class IK to class II K - the driver's cab ends were removed from each of two locomotives and connected to form a double locomotive. They received the new generic XVI T or - because the couple in 1496 A / B with the former locomotive 1502 a V erbundmaschine was involved - XVI TV and the new car numbers 1496 A / B (in 1502 and 1506), 1499 A / B (from 1507 and 1513) and 1500 A / B (1510 and 1511).

This conversion must have been due to the conditions in the war, because it was known that such double locomotives could hardly represent a full replacement for four-coupled locomotives; if the impression from the few surviving photos were correct, that these machines were also manned by four men, they could not have contributed to the relaxation of the personnel situation. The 1499 A / B was separated again in 1918, the other two were retired in 1923 and 1922 respectively.

The Deutsche Reichsbahn has not issued any new numbers.

commitment

The locomotives of type VII TS were primarily used on the lines built as a secondary line in Saxony before all trains. The service on the Pirna – Berggiesshübel (–Gottleuba) , Großpostwitz – Obercunewalde , Johanngeorgenstadt – Schwarzenberg and Schönberg – Schleiz routes is documented .
